Warpacking. A million hryvnias ride
The ride is over. The goal is achieved. Thanks to everyone!
The idea
Hi, I'm Bohdan from Ukraine. For the last ten years cycling was one of my biggest passions — every time the spring came up I rolled out on my bike, riding longer and longer distances from year to year. I became really into long-distance cycling and bikepacking.
However this year everything was totally fucked up as Russia started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Everyone's life has changed, some of my friends had to flee out of the country, some became combatants, some started to volunteer to help Ukrainian army (that's me as well).
That's where I've got the idea of how to combine my passion and the will to support my country. So I will cycle 1500 km through the near-front-line-territories in an attempt to collect $37 500 (which is around 1 000 000 in Ukrainian money) for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The idea is simple: You donate money to the accounts provided below, while I cycle 1 km for every $25 received.
1500 kilometers for $25 each would sum up to $37 500.
After the finish I will transfer all the money to two of the biggest and the most competent charity foundations which help our army — the Come Back Alive foundation and the Serhiy Prytula Charity foundation.
In addition, I plan to visit some of my friends who are serving or living near the route and also shoot some photos and videos.
Real-time interaction, motherfuckers!
If everything goes fine, this adventure will take 7-8 days, but in case I "run out" of the transferred money, I will stop and stand still, waiting for you to cover the price of the next kilometers.
So everything depends on you — the more you send the money, the faster I move forward through the route.
During the trip, I will share some photos and videos in my social networks, as well as the total progress of how much money did we already collect and how many kilometers I've already done.
The route
Kyiv—Okhtyrka—Derhachi—Kharkiv—Lozova—Kramatorsk—Pokrovsk—Zaporizhzhia—Nikopol—Mykolaiv.
I'm not publishing the detailed route for security reasons as I don't want to leak the positions of my friends.
How the hell will you survive? *
Long-distance cycling is something I do for a very long time already. I've done lots of rides from 200 km up to 1500 km, so pedaling day by day, sleeping for a few hours and eating nothing but a single cracker per day is of course a challenge for me, but not impossible.
Obviously, it's even harder during the war as there are lots of extra dangers like constant bomb shellings, curfew and the general tension between people. However, an ambitious goal requires an appropriate effort. There would be little to no chances to collect this money if I was cycling e.g. from Paris to Copenhagen.
